Golf is liked by the massive number of audiences all around the world. With the generous support to the game, many people are joining the game and want to ace it. For doing the same, they must know the basic golf rules so that they can make their base strong. In this article, we have jotted down some most basic rules that beginners to the game of golf must surely know.
10 Basic Rules of Golf for Beginners
Have Good Quality Clubs
During the competitive round, you can bring up to 14 clubs in your golf kit bag. But ensure that you review the material before you begin and delete the other – you may need to penalize the stroke on any hole you play.
Overnight leader Ian Woosnam from the 2001 Open Championship will tell you all about the rule after making two strokes for getting one club on his bag. Do not make the same error.
Play Within Tee Parameters
Even for seasonal golfers, the first tee shot in the sprint is often intimidating. But make sure to pitch between and behind the markers – naturally white for medal teas, red color for women, yellow color for men – and in two sessions.
These simple criteria are easy to overlook with all the comforting thought in the average player’s brain. There is a double penalty for pulling the ball outside.
Never Play a Wrong Ball
Sounds blindly clear, but if you do not label your ball until you start, a risk lies in you – you could confuse yours for the next player’s ball with too many equally stamped golf balls.
When a golf ball is hit in matchplay, the failure of a hole in a single ball may be a two-time offense. To prevent such a penalty, mark your ball with unique, customizable icons more distinctly.
If, for instance, you are unaware that the ball is yours, alert your players, tag it wisely with a pad, raise it, but don’t clean it, and remove it in the same position you have the right.
Rulings for Green
If you have hit the green, you must also be mindful of a few primary rules. When the ball is set on the surface of the placing, you will sign it with a coin or a disc, raise it, and then clean it.
Golfers will patch almost all damages to the green today, including ball marks, spike points, flagstick or club indentations, and even animal wounds.
But aerations holes, natural surface imperfections, or natural hole wear are not required to be fixed by golfers.
Play the Ball from the Place it is Placed
Always play the ball anywhere it would be to rest unless otherwise stated in the Rules.
The player usually has to play the ball from either the new position if the player is rest and then powered by external forces, like water or wind. When anyone raises a ball at rest or transfers it or other external influence before the stroke, it should be substituted and at its original position.
Players should be vigilant while they rest near every ball, and a player who moves his ball or an opponent’s ball is typically disciplined by (except when on the green putting).
You have three choices if your ball has been rested in a spot you feel is unusable. A player may get one of the three options in Rule 19.2a, 19.2b, or 19.2c to take unplayable ball relief, each of which requires applying one penalty stroke.
The player may take stroke & distance relief in compliance with Rule a of 19.2, considering the absence of a ball from the original. However, the athlete needs to know the initial position to take the relief of back to the line in compliance with rule 19.2b or lateral relief under rule 19.2c.
If You are Out Bound, then You Cannot Comeback
To a newbie, it is essential to know what to do when your ball is off-limits. A ball struck outside the course boundaries (usually labeled with white stakes) should be replayed with a penalty of one stroke from its original location.
The scorecard can specifically mark or define the limits of any course.
If you think a shot has reached OB or a water hazard, you still play and announce provisional.
You only have three minutes to retrieve it, and if it is missed, then after a penalty of one-stroke, you spared precious time, moving ahead with the provisional ball.
Although one of the friendly games, Golf is a solo game, as is seen in the Rules of the Game.
You can’t ask someone else or a caddy for advice about club selection.
Nor do you warn opposing rivals. Even so, the Rules, location or lengths of hazards or the flagstick can be requested for details.
Definition of Striking a Ball
It seems like a technical question to hit the ball but is also partially controlled by the Rules.
For instance, you have to hit the ball only with your head, including its club, if you catch yourself in a complicated lie with an uncomfortable stance.
You can’t scrape, spoon, or repair it in a style that is not a definition of ‘stroke.’ The consequence will be a punishment of two-shot in hole failure and stroke play in single match play.
You must ensure that your card has also been appropriately completed after a stroke round – by matching your card scores to the scores, you indicated on a match partner’s card.
The card should be signed as a proper record within each hole by all sides when you consent to it. Faulty and unsigned scorecards lead to dismissal.
So these were some of the basic rules that every Golf beginner must be aware of. They should always take care that making a small mistake and disobeying the rules can lead to their dismissal from the game. Hence, always check all the rules before the game to avoid penalties.
